Identity theft: : possible if they cross files

The main risk of identity stolen is when people who own your files can cross it whith others.

If a compagny keeps your informations for itself, it's quite safe. But if marketing people want to enlarge their data base or having more information about you, they could be tempted to pay for new files... and cross them with the one they have.

In France, this is forbidden by the law of 1970 "Informatique et libertés", in USA you have to check yourself about the use of your identity online.
